PADV's third annual Teen Dating Violence Summit presented by Verizon Wireless

The summit is for teens, but adults are welcome. The summit features keynote speaker Johanna Orozco a survivor of teen dating violence who has been seen on Oprah, ABC's 20/20, and The View. In addition, teens will participate in workshops focused on healthy relationships, bystander intervention, texting responsibly, teen health, and raise awareness about the dangers of bullying and exploitation. Adults will hear from teens about what they are experiencing in the dating world today and how adults can support them. The day will wrap up with exciting giveaways and prizes.

2012 Domestic Violence in the Workplace Conference
October 10, 2012 at The Home Depot Corporate Office beginning at 7:30 a.m.

On December 14, 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) 2010 Summary Report. These historical findings show that, on average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of a year, that equals more than 12 million women and men. That means these behaviors are prevalent in your own organization as well as in mine whether we recognize them or not.

1. 1 in 4 women have been the victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner while 1 in 7 men experienced severe violence by an intimate partner. You don't have to look far from your desk to know that it is there.

2. 81% of women who experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner reported significant short and long term impacts related to the IPV experienced such as fear, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and injury, while 35% of men reported such impacts from the IPV experienced. The costs are estimated at greater than $8.3 billion annually. It affects your bottom line and your insurance costs.

As a leader in my own organization, I have made the conscience decision to join Partnership Against Domestic Violence's "Domestic Violence in the Workplace" conference committee. This daylong conference slated for October 10, 2012 at The Home Depot Corporate Office will provide you, as a leader, as well as your HR, security and legal staff a real life action plan to take back into your own company for implementation.
