8/2/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO - RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) -- More than 13,400 senior airmen -- 40 percent of those eligible -- have been selected for promotion to staff sergeant.

To see the list, go to http://www.afpc.af.mil/promotions/ssgt.asp.

Staff sergeant is the first noncommissioned officer rank. Those selected will be promoted beginning in September, depending on their promotion sequence number. Selections are tentative until the data verification process is complete, which is no later than 10 days after the promotion release date.

The average score for those selected was 283.30, with an average time-in-grade of 1.93 years and time-in-service of 4.45 years. Weighted factor point averages were 131.59 for enlisted performance reports, .98 for decorations, 70.35 for the promotion fitness exam and 57.33 for the specialty knowledge test.

Does it matter really You guys are retired or Techs. You passed the same mile stone already. Those who made it made it. Congrats to those who deserve it those who don't will get weeded out.

Ret MSgtI wonder what yardstick you are using. Other branches have been making E-5 in their first enlistments for decades.Congrats to those that made it. Sure E-5 is the new buck sgt but that doesn't mean you won't have to step up to the challenge.

What's even better is it takes 5people to say the same thing over and over again. And none of you seemed to notice that someone posted the same response...your attention to detail is astounding

OK what was the AVERAGE cut-off score smart guys This is important. 40 percent of eligibles is a ridiculously high promotion rate and 4.45 years time in service is ridiculously low.

How in the world does someone retire at the rank of MSgt and not understand how Cutoff scores are calculated

@ Ret MSgt. Cutoff scores are peculiar to the AFSC. The AF as a whole doesn't provide cutoff scores for all airmen grouped together.

Depends on the AFSC that the person was in some only had themselves.

@ Ret MSgt. The cutoff score depends on the career field and how many are promotable. Its not a set score.

the cutoff score is different for every career field. It is also dependent on those who are testing. The AF does not set a cutoff score they set a percentage to promote. The last promoter within the range becomes the cutoff score.

@Ret MSgt The cut-off scores vary by AFSC. It would take to much space to post them all since they are avail to the promotees via vMPF.
