Frank Welcomes Army Corps Recommendation of Stoughton Route for South Coast Rail

Mar 22, 2011 Issues: Local issues, Transportation

Congressman Barney Frank today welcomed the announcement by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that it would recommend the Stoughton route for the South Coast Rail project.

“The Stoughton line is clearly the most favored route and this is a major step forward.  South Coast Rail is one of my highest priorities, and I will work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to make it possible.”

Barney Frank has been one of the strongest advocates of the South Coast Rail project, and worked to deliver federal funds to provide the infrastructure necessary for the rail line.  Frank has consistently argued that a train line to the South Coast will provide a significant boost to the local economies of cities and towns in southeastern Massachusetts and also to the state as a whole.

The announcement by the Corps of Engineers was made in advance of the release of its draft environmental report on the planned South Coast Rail.  General information about the report is available on the web site of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
