Meet the Musician

Chief Musician Suzanne R. Tiedeman,

Suzanne R. Tiedeman, born in Lausanne, Switerland and raised in Delmar, N.Y., joined the Navy Band in 1998. A student of Randy Gardner, she began her collegiate music studies in French horn performance at Temple University, Esther Boyer College of Music and completed a Bachelor of Music in 1998 at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.  During her summers, she attended the New York State School of Orchestral Studies in 1991, the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1992 and the Aspen Music Festival in 1994 and 1996.   In addition to Randy Gardner, her teacher include Ted Biernacki, Eric Ruske, Jerome Ashby, John Cerminaro, David Wakefield, and Ib Lansky-Otto.


In 1997, Chief Tiedeman was selected for the Disney All-American College Marching Band in Walt Disney World.  While in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, Chief Tiedeman has enjoyed various local performing opportunities most notably with the Fairfax, Arlington and Maryland Symphonies.  She also maintains an active private teaching studio in various high schools.  Chief Tiedeman is currently the Operations Chief for the Ceremonial Band, works with the Archives Team and the Physical Fitness Team.  She enjoys traveling, renovating homes and spending time with family.
