Cmdr. Angela Walker

A native of Cumming, Ga., Cmdr. Angie Walker graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and received her commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship Program in December 1992.  In December 1999 she completed a Master of Science in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School and was designated a special duty officer (oceanography).  She is currently a doctoral candidate in the University of Southern Mississippi’s Human Capital Development Executive Program.

After her initial training at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, R. I., she reported aboard USS Shenandoah (AD-44) in September 1993, qualifying as a surface warfare officer, engineering officer of the watch, and command duty officer.  In October 1995, Walker reported aboard USS Stump (DD-978) as the navigation/administration department head and later served as the strike warfare officer during a Middle East Force deployment.

After graduating from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1999, Walker reported to the Mobile Environmental Team, Jacksonville, Fla. as the assistant department head and fleet liaison officer.  In February 2001 she reported to the Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Facility Jacksonville where she served as the operations officer, coordinating all hurricane issues for naval installations from North Carolina south to Puerto Rico and west to the Mississippi River.

In January 2005, Walker transferred to Mayport, Fla. and assumed dual responsibility as staff oceanographer for Carrier Strike Groups Six and Fourteen.  In February 2006, she deployed to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti where she earned her flight meteorologist qualification, serving as the joint meteorology and oceanography officer in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa.

In August 2006, she reported to the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Professional Development Detachment South in Gulfport, Miss. and served as officer-in-charge until July 2007 when she assumed the duties of executive officer of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Professional Development Center, Gulfport.

From May 2009 to May 2010 she served as head of the Plans Division of the Strategic Plans and Policy Department and later deputy assistant chief of staff for operations at the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Stennis Space Center, Miss.

In May 2010 she was appointed commanding officer of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Keesler, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Miss.

Walker currently serves as the Arctic affairs officer for the Navy’s Task Force Climate Change.
