The Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF) receives liquids from the Liquid Effluent Retention Facility. A number of treatment processes at ETF remove radioactive and hazardous contaminants from waste water. Once the waste water has been treated through ETF, it is stored until tests confirm that various radioactive and hazardous contaminants have been removed or lowered to levels that make it acceptable for discharge to a state-approved disposal site in Hanford’s 200 Area.
ETF is a state permitted facility. It treats up to 28,000,000 gallons of waste water each year.
