Marine Invasive Species Program
The Marine Invasive Species Program (MISP) within the Department of Fish and Game, Office of Spill Prevention and Response (DFG-OSPR) coordinates with the California State Lands Commission (CSLC) to control the introduction on Non-Indigenous Species (NIS) from the ballast of ocean-going vessels. Funds from the Marine Invasive Species Control Fund pay for biological surveys to monitor the coastal and estuarine waters of California to determine the level of invasion by non-native species conducted by MISP under DFG-OSPR. The budget also covers CSLC ballast water inspection, monitoring program and research, fee assessment by the Board of Equalization, and consultation by the State Water Resource Control Board.
