Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, announced the following upcoming Committee events:

H.R. 4251, (Mrs. Miller of Michigan) To authorize, enhance, and reform certain port security programs through increased efficiency and risk-based coordination within the Department of Homeland Security, and for other purposes. The “Securing Maritime Activities through Risk-based Targeting for Port Security Act" or "The SMART Port Security Act.”
An Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute is expected to be offered by Mrs. Miller.

“Through years of high profile mistakes and poor public communications, TSA has become one of the most disliked agencies in the Federal Government. Many Americans have a guttural response when they encounter TSA while traveling. Given the importance of securing our Nation’s airports and other transportation systems from terrorist attack, it is essential that TSA rebuild its trust and image with the American people. This hearing will provide an opportunity for TSA Administrator John Pistole to describe his efforts to fix TSA. I firmly believe that TSA must become a leaner, smarter agency in order to improve its overall relationship with the flying public while continuing to perform its mission."
