Hahn Statement on Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

Sep 11, 2012

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Janice Hahn released the following statement in recognition of the eleventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

As we mark the eleventh anniversary of a September morning that dawned just as any other, we are first and foremost called to remember. We remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. And we remember when we realized this was more than an accident.

We all lost something that day. Too many of us lost someone.

But as we remember the fear and the grief of a day born of unfathomable hate, we remember too the impossible heroism of so many of our fellow Americans.

We remember the firefighters and police officers who—without question, without hesitation—ran into the stricken buildings to get others out. We remember the brave men and women of United flight 93, who learning of the attacks throughout the country, decided they would fight. That they would give their lives that others might live.

Threats persist, and there is work still to be done. We’ve forgotten a little of the unity of those early days. But today a new tower stretches towards the sky in lower Manhattan. And we look out on this September day with the firmness of hope, remembering always the blessing of tomorrow.
