Twitter Town Hall: Renewable Energy
I have long held the view that we need an “all of the above” approach to securing our energy future — a silver buckshot strategy that includes renewable sources such as wind, solar and biofuels, traditional sources such as natural gas and safe nuclear power. I believe renewable energy sources will create many thousands of new, good-paying Colorado jobs and reverse the harmful effects of climate change in the process.
Sources such as biofuels also have the potential to improve national security by reducing our dependence on oil from unstable parts of the world. And it’s not just about being green; it’s about increasing our strategic capabilities and saving lives. A smarter energy policy will give our military leaders the tools and support they need to reduce their energy consumption and diversify their fuel supply, and – by reducing fuel supply lines they must protect – quite literally save lives.
For our economy, a new generation of fuel technologies will keep the United States ahead of the global pack and lead us toward a true 21st century energy policy. Industry investments and innovation are essential steps to help our country transition to a more affordable, reliable and secure energy future. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to lead. We all have a role to play.
I'm hosting a Twitter Town Hall to talk about renewable energy with my constituents on Oct. 16, 2012, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. MT. Join the conversation by tweeting me your questions using the hashtag #AskUdall and you can view the discussion below.
