President Obama Announces Intent to Nominate New National Service Board Members

Washington, DC – President Obama announced his intention to nominate seven members to the Board of Directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service today.

“We are pleased that the President has nominated some of our nation’s most accomplished and strong service leaders to help lead the agency at this critical time for service,” said Patrick Corvington, CEO of the Corporation. “Their experience, expertise, and perspective on the challenges facing communities will prove instrumental as we work to achieve higher levels of impact and effectiveness in meeting social needs. We hope that the Senate will move quickly to confirm these nominees.”

The nominees include Rick Christman, Jane Hartley, Marguerite W. Kondracke, Matthew McCabe, John Podesta, Lisa Quiroz, and Phyllis N. Segal. The President’s nomination will now proceed to the U.S. Senate for review as part of the confirmation process.

President Obama said in the White House release, “I am proud to nominate a group of individuals whose collective experience will help shape, expand and strengthen the next generation of service.  These men and women are true leaders who understand that America faces an unprecedented set of challenges, and that what’s required to overcome those challenges and build a new foundation for economic growth and prosperity doesn’t come from Washington alone – it comes from every American willing to make a difference in communities across this country.  I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years.”

The Corporation’s bipartisan board sets the overall policy and direction for the agency and its programs. The Corporation is the nation’s largest grant maker for volunteering and service, engaging more than five million Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service each year through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America programs, and leads the President’s United We Serve initiative.
