Fermilab and Indian Institutions have been collaborating on high energy physics experiments since 1985. Indian scientists have made significant contributions to the Fermilab program. Several students have received Ph.D. under the Indian Institutions-Fermilab collaboration (IIFC).
The United States and Indian Universities & the Accelerator Laboratories management signed an overarching MOU on January 9, 2006 to extend the collaboration on accelerator development in both countries.

Indian Institutions and Fermilab Collaboration: A Significant Milestone for IIFC
The Implementing Agreement between the U.S. Department Of Energy and the Department of Atomic Energy of India for Cooperation in the Area of Accelerator and Particle Detector Research and Development for Discovery Science was signed on July 19th, in New Delhi, during the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visit by Secretary Banerjee (Indian DAE) and Deputy Secretary Poneman (US-DOE).
