Army names top print, broadcast and public affairs specialists

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The Department of the Army, Office of the Chief of Public Affairs, recognized public affairs specialists, print and broadcast journalists for excellence in their career field during the Army-wide 2011 Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition.

The competition salutes excellence among Soldiers and civilian employees who produce broadcast programming, print articles, photographs, graphic art, Web-based products and community relations programs to inform and entertain the Army audience.

Christian Marquardt, with the Joint Multinational Training Command, was selected as the Army’s Civilian Broadcast Journalist of the Year. He also won 2nd place for Radio News Report, "USAREUR Best Officer Competition," 2nd place for Television Feature Report, "Trauma FX," and 3rd place for Television News Report, "EFMB Ruck March".

The annual contest is named for Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient and former Army Chief of Information who was killed in action in Vietnam.

The U.S. Army will compete with its sister services in the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Awards Program later this year. The program recognizes military and civilian employee print and broadcast journalists for outstanding achievements in furthering the objectives of the DOD Internal Information Program.
