Radio Sawa wins the Facebook Interactive Award

Springfield, Va. ––The Pan Arab Web Awards Academy granted the Facebook Interactive Award to Radio Sawa in a ceremony that was held in Amman, Jordan last evening. Radio Sawa won the award for its interactivity with the audience, rich content, easy to navigate design and the number of “likes.”

“Radio Sawa’s Social Media team has been doing an extraordinary job in presenting the station’s rich content to the audience in the Middle East and across the globe. Radio Sawa won the Facebook Interactive Award because of its ability to engage and connect with its audience and because of the station’s faithful fans,” stated Brian Conniff, President of MBN.

The ceremony was held in collaboration with Microsoft and the League of Arab States in the presence of Facebook representatives. A group of design and technical professors served as jury and made the selection process following international standards.

Pan Arab Web Awards Academy is a non-profit organization that aims to serve as an inspiration and reward creators for their skills so that they continue to improve. Pan Arab Web Awards Academy has been honoring and awarding Arab Web achievements in the IT industry since 2001.

Radio Sawa achieved success by creating a format that provides news and localized music to the Arab audience through different media platforms including FM radio, mobile devices and the Internet. Radio Sawa has been one of the leading Arabic-language news outlets that provide its audience with breaking news and up-to-the-minute reports. Both Radio Sawa and its all-news-website RadioSawa.com are frequently cited in the Arab press.

Radio Sawa broadcasts on FM to Libya, Morocco, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, U.A.E., Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan and Djibouti. Radio Sawa broadcasts on medium wave to Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Syria.  The radio networks can also be heard on Arabsat and Nilesat as well as Radio Sawa’s website.

Recent surveys by international research companies such as ACNielsen show that Radio Sawa has an unduplicated weekly reach of an estimated 14 million adults.  Radio Sawa is operated by the non-profit corporation “The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.” (MBN).  MBN is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency.  The BBG provides oversight and serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
