Rigell Statement on Recent Attacks on American Diplomatic Mission Posts
Washington,
Sep 12 -
WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Scott Rigell (VA-2) released the following statement in response to the recent attacks at diplomatic installations in Libya and Egypt:
"I join my colleagues and our friends and neighbors across America in strongly condemning the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and our embassy in Cairo, Egypt. Our embassies and consulates are sovereign American soil populated largely by civilians and protected and defended by our men and women in uniform. I call on President Obama to exert strong leadership to bring these violent extremists to justice and prevent further attacks on our diplomatic missions.
"Teri and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to the families of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the other brave Americans who lost their lives or have been injured in these reprehensible attacks. Our thoughts are with the diplomatic and military personnel around the world who are on heightened alert today.
"The American flag, no matter where she flies in this world, will continue to be a symbol of democracy, liberty, and the promise of freedom. As a nation, we are fortunate to have men and women, military and civilian, who will put their lives at risk in defense of these ideals. And we are forever grateful for their sacrifice."
