Lamborn Announces Additional BCT at Fort Carson

Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) is pleased to announce that after much hard work on behalf of Fort Carson and Colorado Springs, the Army has assigned Fort Carson with an additional Brigade Combat Team being stood up as part of "Grow the Army."

"This is exciting news for the 5th District of Colorado. The Army’s decision to station one of the additional Brigade Combat Teams at Fort Carson demonstrates that the Army considers Fort Carson and Pinon Canyon to be a highly capable military installation. This will have a tremendous impact on the economy of Colorado Springs and the entire state of Colorado, bringing thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars to our community. It is a vital investment in the future of our state and the safety and security of the nation." – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Taking the lead to persuade the Army of all the advantages Fort Carson and Pinon Canyon provide, Congressman Lamborn’s efforts, along with other members of the Colorado delegation, have helped ensure roughly 4800 additional soldiers will come to Fort Carson. The Army estimates the completion of the additional Brigade Combat Team will be in place by 2010.

Fort Carson and the surrounding areas of the 5th Congressional District have the resources necessary to seamlessly integrate an additional Brigade Combat Team. As training demands increase in the future, it will be important to ensure that the soldiers stationed at Fort Carson have the land required to properly train for their mission.

As the Army studies the expansion of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site to provide the soldiers with this much needed additional training space, Congressman Lamborn strongly believes that it is important for the Army and Southern Colorado landowners to reach a resolution that will both protect private property rights and allow soldiers the best opportunity to train for the wars of the future.
