Congressman Doug Lamborn To Serve As Acting Ranking Member Of The Water And Power Subcommittee

Temporary Appointment Creates the Unique Honor of a Freshman serving as Ranking Member of Two Subcommittees Vital to Colorado’s Interest

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs), already Ranking Member of the Disabilities Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee of the Veterans Affairs Committee, was selected recently by Ranking Member Don Young (R-AK) to serve as acting-ranking member of the Subcommittee on Water and Power of the House Committee on Natural Resources. This position, as acting ranking member will continue until Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) returns from a recent childbirth to resume ranking member duties.

“I am honored that the Republican Leadership in the House of Representatives has chosen me to serve as acting Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Water and Power,” said Rep. Lamborn. “This is a great opportunity.  Serving in a leadership role on two subcommittees vital to Colorado’s interests will enable me to be a powerful advocate for my state and district. I am pleased to have been entrusted with this responsibility. I look forward to serving as the acting ranking member when the Water and Power Subcommittee comes to Pueblo, CO, for a field hearing on June 1st.”

There are 9 freshman members in the 110th Congress who hold a Subcommittee Chair or Ranking Status, 5 Democrats and 4 Republicans. Of these 9 members, Congressman Lamborn is currently the only member known to hold two Subcommittee leadership slots.

“I welcome Rep. Lamborn’s experience and leadership to the Subcommittee,” Rep. Young, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Natural Resources. “Given Doug’s experience on Western issues, he is well positioned to lead the Subcommittee on Water and Power during Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodger’s absence.  This also allows him to propose solutions for the problem the citizens of Colorado currently face regarding water issues.”

In addition to the Veterans Affairs Committee, and Subcommittee and the Natural Resources’ Subcommittee on Water and Power, Rep. Lamborn also serves on the Subcommittee on National Parks Forests and Public Lands within the Natural Resources Committee.  Currently, Rep. Lamborn is accruing seniority on the Armed Services Committee through his “on leave” status.  He has been told by the Republican Leadership that he will receive a “full” appointment to this committee when the next permanent vacancy arises.
