Housing Offices

The Housing Office should be one of the first stops for anyone arriving at a new duty station. Every installation has a Housing Office that provides information on the availability of, and waiting times for, government, privatized, or private sector housing. For a listing of installation housing offices, visit the MilitaryINSTALLATIONS website.

Relocation Assistance Program

The Relocation Assistance Program (RAP) provides a wide range of services to help service members and their families manage the challenges of the mobile military lifestyle. RAP often offers welcome packets and moving workshops for service members and family members who have recently moved to the installation. It may also offer a lending closet program, providing basic household equipment for families to use until their own furnishings arrive.  RAP can also be a great resource prior to a move by providing information about the future duty station and its surrounding community, assisting with spousal employment and child care concerns, and answering financial questions related to moving. RAP can help service members and their families to access emergency financial assistance, such as food closets and emergency loans, if needed.

RAP can be accessed through Army Community Services (ACS), Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Navy Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSC), or the Airman and Family Readiness Centers (A&FRC). Contact information for Relocation Assistance Programs at installations worldwide can be found at MilitaryINSTALLATIONS.

The Department of Defense Automated Housing Referral Network

The Department of Defense Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN) offers service members and DoD civilians the opportunity to view rental housing listings for the civilian community and available privatized installation housing. Through this website, members may also post properties they would like to rent to other military personnel, find a roommate, or list their home for-sale-by-owner (FSBO) if it is not listed with a real estate agent.
