The primary focus of this position will be on the changing technology needs of the library, faculty, staff and students. The librarian will both identify needs and develop programs to meet those needs. Included is the responsibility to follow emerging technologies as well as social media and analyze their potential; to recommend new technologies that will improve the library’s current services for information resource discovery and retrieval; to lead technological planning and implementation. The librarian will also evaluate, select and support library resources on mobile devices.In addition, the person in this position will work closely with the university library web master to maintain CMSRU library web content; conduct training in the use of information technologies; and promote appropriate technologies and media through both marketing and training.The Librarian will also perform literature searches and provide research assistance to students, faculty, hospital staff and administration to support education, clinical care and research. Included is the responsibility for training library clients to become efficient and effective users of available information resources and tools. Duties may also include CMSRU curricular instruction.This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Library.
Qualifications:
Required:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science
Expertise in the use of new technologies in the library setting with the ability to acquire new skills and resolve problems quickly
Ability to provide technical support in the use of hardware and software
Familiarity with web site design and maintenance
Familiarity with integrated library systems
Familiarity with social media and its use in the library setting
Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to customer service
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Ability to work independently
Commitment to continuing professional development and participation in professional activities
Preferred:
Experience working in a health sciences library or other medical setting
Familiarity with health sciences databases, resources and literature
Knowledge of medical terminology
Familiarity with content management products for web design and maintenance
Ability to make technology accessible to a variety of users
Ability to plan, co-ordinate workflows, and implement projects
