COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Rep. Doug Lamborn was in the House Chambers Wednesday afternoon as Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Palosi, passed the gavel to Republican John Boehner, of Ohio.Lamborn, who represents the fifth district in southern Colorado, told KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 that he plans to work with Democrats in the New Year. “I think we got some action on part of the president, which did surprise me, last December," Lamborn said.He was referring to the extension of the Bush-era tax cuts, which extended tax cuts for two years for all Americans.Lamborn voted against the idea because he was not happy with the deal, which he said would have added too much to the deficit. “While we needed to extend the cuts, and not let them go up, I would have preferred it to be permanent and not just two years,” said Lamborn.He downplayed media reports that Republicans were backing down on their promise to cut $100 billion from the federal budget this year. “I think Republicans can cut $100 billion and get back to 2008 levels. Now, we have half the remaining fiscal year to do that, before Sept. 30 and we’re not going to cut into defense, Homeland Security or veterans’ Issues.House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan said Wednesday that the spending reduction would be about $60 billion in this fiscal year.Lamborn has already introduced two bills. One would cut funding from National Public Radio and Public Broadcast. He said it would cut about $500 million from the budget.
