Prepare to Lead with the Chicago Federal Executive Board
 
 

The Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) define the competencies needed to build a federal corporate culture that drives for results, serves customers, and builds successful teams and coalitions within and outside the organization.

We offer a series of classes that focus on organizational leadership and management and pertain directly to the five federal ECQs and their underlying competencies to become an SES.

ECQ 1—Leading Change-- September 5, 2012

At the completion of this module, participants will be able to:
• Bring about organizational change in response to a continuously changing environment
• Question conventional methods, encourage new ideas and implement new processes and programs
• Stay informed on local, national and international events, policies and trends that affect the organization and consider how the organization affects the external environment

ECQ 2—Leading People - October 3, 2012

• Foster team commitment, spirit, pride and trust and facilitate cooperation to accomplish team goals
• Support an inclusive workplace in which differences are valued and leveraged effectively
• Develop the knowledge and skills of team members through formal and informal training

ECQ 3—Results Driven- November 7, 2012

• Demonstrate personal accountability for achieving measurable results, accepting responsibility for mistakes and complying with established control systems and rules
• Deliver high-quality products and services and anticipate the needs of internal and external customers
• Make well-informed, effective and timely decisions that consider the impact and long-term implications on people and operations that are directly and indirectly affected

ECQ 4—Business Acumen- January 9, 2013

• Demonstrate understanding of the organization’s financial processes including budgeting, procurement, contracting and monitoring expenditures with a cost-benefit mindset
• Build and manage a high-performance multi-sector workforce through effective recruiting and performance management
• Use organizational technology effectively and ensure access to and security of technology systems

ECQ 5—Building Coalitions- February 12, 2013

• Develop networks, build alliances and collaborate across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals
• Identify internal and external politics that impact the organization and balance them with organizational reality to determine appropriate management action
• Build cooperation and consensus through effective persuasion and negotiation
