Hastings Statement on Release of “A Pledge to America”

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement today after House Republicans unveiled A Pledge to America, a new governing agenda built to address the priorities of our nation. The Pledge is the culmination of engagement with the American people in which House Republicans sought their ideas and priorities for Congress. The Pledge offers

“Through town halls, phone calls, meetings, letters and internet tools like America Speaking Out, I have been engaged in a listening tour with Central Washington residents. My Republican colleagues have been doing the same in communities they represent in an unprecedented effort to gain the insight and wisdom of the American people as we crafted A Pledge to America.
“For the past four years those who run Congress have ignored the concerns of everyday Americans, instead choosing to pass bailouts, stimulus spending, new energy taxes and a government takeover of health care.
“Simply put, those who have total control of Washington, D.C. refuse to listen to the American people, and that needs to change.
“By listening to the American people, Republicans have developed A Pledge to America – a new standard of governing focused on creating jobs, growing our economy, cutting spending, securing our nation and reforming Congress. With a quarter of the year left for Congress to act, it’s time to implement these solutions.”
