Armed Services Committee
From the start of his Senate career, Senator Carl Levin has been a member of the Armed Services Committee. With the start of the 112th Congress, Senator Levin continues to serve as the chairman of the committee, a position he has held since January 2007.more
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee
Senator Levin has served on the Governmental Affairs Committee, now called the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, during his entire Senate career. As the most senior Democrat on the committee, Senator Levin has worked to increase accountability and efficiency in the federal government and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.more
Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations
The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, a subcommittee of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, conducts complex investigations. It has authority to investigate a broad range of issues, including financial crime, organized crime, offshore jurisdictions, and federal waste, fraud and abuse. Senator Levin is the chairman of the subcommittee, having previously served as its Chairman from June 2001 until January 2003. more
Intelligence Committee
Carl joined the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in 1997 and currently serves as an ex officio member in his capacity as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.more
Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee
As a senior member of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Levin champions the interests of Michigan small businesses. He understands that small business is the heart of America's economic strength and job creation. more
Great Lakes Task Force
The Great Lakes are one of the greatest natural resources for Michigan and the country. Michigan borders four of the five Great Lakes and has 3,228 miles of coastline. Senator Levin knows the value of the Great Lakes to Michigan and to our country, and as co-chair of the Senate Great Lakes Task Force, he fights to protect this tremendous natural resource.more
Senate Auto Caucus
Michigan, home of GM, Ford and Chrysler, is the heart of the U.S. automobile industry. The auto industry is responsible for eight million jobs nationwide or about six percent of private sector jobs. For every worker directly employed by an automaker, more than six spin-off jobs are created. Senator Levin has played an active role in promoting the U.S. auto industry through his work as co-chair of the Senate Auto Caucus.more
