The President's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)

Ten years ago, the Republican-led Congress working in a bipartisan fashion with the Clinton Administration created the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) specifically to provide health care to America’s uninsured low-income children. By and large, the evidence of ten years of experience suggests that SCHIP has been a success; it has provided health care coverage to millions of low-income children and done so mostly within its budget. I support the goal of extending this important safety net for low-income children. That is why I am a strong supporter and cosponsor of the “SCHIP Extension Act of 2007” (H.R. 3584) which would reauthorize SCHIP for 18 months and provide for a 33
