  3. It was a pleasure speaking with a great group of 8th grade students, who have been learning about government and politics at Will Rogers Middle School in Lawndale, Calif. These students are the future of our great nation!

  4. I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Education published the final regulations today for the new “Pay As You Earn” loan repayment plan that will assist borrowers in repaying their federal student loans. The plan will be a big help to recent college graduates that are having trouble finding a job that pays enough to support their federal student loans.
  5. As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, I express my support for those engaged in the ongoing fight against the most common cancer among women in our country. Breast cancer is a disease that knows no boundaries and doesn't discriminate. Breast cancer doesn't stop when October ends, so let's continue the fight beyond this month!

  8. Today was a historic day in Inglewood as space shuttle Endeavour made its way through the city and continued on its final journey to the California Science Center. I am extremely proud to welcome the Endeavour to its new home in southern California.

  11. I spoke with KPCC about the passing of Mervyn Dymally. The former lieutenant governor, state legislator and congressman dedicated his life to public service and advocating for social justice in the state of California, the nation and internationally. He was a dear colleague, mentor and friend, and will be sorely missed.
