Adventures on Public Lands: California Backcountry The Public Lands Omnibus of 2009 designated numerous wilderness areas, made existing wilderness areas larger, established special recreation areas, and protected several wild rivers in the state of California. Many of these areas are in the Sierras, around Kings Canyon and Sequoia national park.
