Heroes from the Heartland

The Indiana State Museum will be hosting its annual Heroes from the Heartland exhibit honoring Hoosier veterans in November. The exhibit will run from Thursday, November 1st through Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11th, 2012.  The program will showcase the names and photographs of many of Indiana’s service members, the Indianapolis Municipal Band will perform, military re-enactors will educate the public on what it was like to be a soldier during different times, and various other vendors will be on hand to help celebrate the sacrifices of our military members and their families.

Photographs can be submitted to kcreagh@indianamuseum.org along with the following information; Name, Date of service, Branch of military, Hometown or Indiana connection, and name of submitter. The museum encourages people to include special stories about the veterans if possible; example, veteran was part of D-Day in World War II.  Photos will be accepted through Oct. 25, 2012.

The 2011/2012 Application for Remission of Fees is available for classes which start in the fall of 2011. The same form must be used for the Spring and Summer 2012 classes. Click on "Forms" in the left-hand column.

Governor Daniels Honors Deceased Hoosier Veterans with Special Certificates

Governor Mitch Daniels recently began sending special certificates to the survivors of deceased Hoosier veterans honoring their service in the military. The initiative, called the Governor’s Memorial Certificate program, is the State of Indiana’s final thank you to the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserve.
