OSM Grants $312,000 to Improve Water Quality at Flight 93 Memorial
Today, the National Park Service (NPS) announced the continued effort to improve the water quality of Lamberts Run, a stream bisecting the Flight 93 National Memorial that flows into the Stonycreek River in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
A $312,000 grant from the Department of Interior’s Office of Surface Mining to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources will ultimately construct a settling bed to filter iron and manganese from the pumped well discharge.
OSM Honors 2012 Winners of Mine Reclamation Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 24, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) will honor state reclamation programs in Kentucky, Illinois, Montana, Utah, and Pennsylvania for outstanding examples of protecting people and the environment while reclaiming abandoned mine lands.
On September 26, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement(OSM) will honor five coal companies for completing reclaiming coal mine sites in an exemplary manner. The award-winning projects are spread among several locations in Illinois, Texas, and Wyoming.
OSM Observes 35th Anniversary
Today, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) observed its 35th anniversary, a commemoration of the day President Jimmy Carter signed into law the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) on August 3, 1977.
