AGR Reenlistment and REFRAD Alignment

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Changes to AR 140-111

Please read the entire page carefully as procedures and bonus eligibility has changed!

AR 140-111 has changed. The most important change is that a Soldier can no longer reenlist up until the day prior to his/her ETS.

According to Chapter 8, para 8-16, reenlistments are not authorized when Soldiers are less than 3 months from ETS without prior approval from Director, EPMD, Chief Retention and Reclassification Branch.

Any requests for REFRAD Alignment or Reenlistments received that are within 90 days of the ETS will be returned without action so that the Soldier's chain of command can process the request for an exception to this policy. The request for the exception must accompany the request for REFRAD Alignment or Reenlistment.

As requests for reenlistment and REFRAD alignment can be initiated 15 months prior to ETS or REFRAD do not anticipate a large demand for exception to the ETS-90 days limitation (Please note, you can only reenlist within the 12 month window).

Any soldier whose ETS is on/after 1 Apr. 2008 will automatically receive orders for separation or release from active duty 89 days before their ETS if no request has been received by HRC.

All Soldiers who are on an initial AGR tour with an ETS date that is after their REFRAD MUST request REFRAD Realignment if they wish to remain in the AGR Program beyond their initial tour.

Overview

AGR Soldiers in the Grades of SSG - CSM who have at least 10 years of total military service at expiration of term of service (ETS) can reenlist for 3, 4, 5, 6 years. AGR Soldiers in the Grades of PVT - SGT at expiration of term of service (ETS) can reenlist for 3, 4, 5, 6 years. To reenlist, you must meet the Basic reenlistment eligibility criteria of AR 140-111, Table 2-1 and AR 135-18, Table 2-4, or be eligible for a waiver / extension.

  2. DA Form 4187-1-R (Command endorsement)
  3. DA Form 3340-R
  4. DA Form 705 that is less than 9 months old.
