 Message from the Director

The Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, U.S. Department of the Interior, welcomes you to the Department's Small Business Program. Our vision is to assist small businesses in seeking contracts with the Department. We hope the information provided on this website is of assistance to you as you consider selling your services or products to us.

The Department has many buying activities working independently of each other to achieve our small business program goals. Our mission is to ensure that small businesses who have an interest in doing business with the Department have the necessary tools required to build positive relationships with our bureaus and offices.

We understand that small businesses are the cornerstone to our economy and working together we continue to make a difference. Please note that this website was designed to complement your research as you gain a better understanding of the Department of the Interior.

History

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) was created as part of the Small Business Act (SBA) to ensure that small and disadvantaged businesses are provided maximum practicable opportunity to participate in the agency's contracting process. Pursuant to Public Law 95-507, every federal agency is required to have an OSDBU.

The primary responsibility of the OSDBU is to ensure that small businesses are treated fairly and have an opportunity to compete and be selected for a fair amount of the agency's contracting and subcontracting dollars.


OSDBU's Mission

  • To ensure that small business policies and goals of the Department are implemented in a fair, efficient, and effective manner to serve small businesses.
  • To implement DOI's activities on behalf of small businesses, in accordance with Sections 8, 15, and 31 of the SBA, as amended.
  • To provide guidance on pursuing contracting opportunities and technical assistance to the small business community.
