The mission of the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is to ensure that the FBI maintains its integrity and professionalism by impartially adjudicating allegations of employee misconduct. To preserve credibility and the public�s trust, FBI employees must be accountable to rigorous standards of personal and institutional responsibility, enforced both internally and through responsiveness to external oversight. The OPR adjudicative process materially enhances confidence in and support for the FBI, thereby enabling the institution to better perform its mission.

Types of Work Performed
The Special Agents, Adjudicators, and Other Professional Staff who work in the Office of Professional Responsibility are responsible for a wide variety of functions, including:
- Researching and analyzing disciplinary laws, rules, policies and practices
- Preparing reports of investigation and other written documents relating to the adjudication of employee misconduct allegations
- Assisting field personnel with questions pertaining to the OPR process
- Developing and delivering presentations and briefings
- Providing training to employees
- Coordinating with other FBI entities

Career Advancement Opportunities
The Office of Professional Responsibility has positions that start from GS-7 and advance to the GS-15 level. Each position within the Division has its own career path. Promotions are merit based and require the demonstrated ability to perform higher-level duties.

Training Requirements and Opportunities
The Office of Professional Responsibility has a continuing education requirement of 15 hours annually. The Division encourages employees to avail themselves of training opportunities applicable to their positions. Training is offered through the FBI, government, and private vendors on a variety of topics.

Travel Requirements
There are professional positions within the Office of Professional Responsibility that offer travel opportunities. Usually travel is domestic to support field investigations, or to attend conferences, symposiums, and training hosted by the FBI.
