Rear Admiral Brian B. Brown

Rear Adm. Brown graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986. Upon commissioning, he initially served as a surface warfare officer and transferred to naval oceanography in 1990.

At sea, Brown served aboard USS Frederick (LST 1184) as a deck division officer and navigation/administration officer. As an oceanographer, he served as mobile environmental team officer on the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron 31; as battle force oceanographer/scheduler on the staff of Commander, Carrier Group Eight aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); and, as fleet oceanographer on the staff of Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet aboard USS La Salle (AGF 3) in Gaeta, Italy.

Shore tours include: operations officer at the Naval Pacific Meteorology and Oceanography Facility in San Diego; assignment/placement officer and assistant oceanography community manager at the Navy Personnel Command; deputy for the Naval Oceanography Operations Command; executive officer of the Naval Oceanographic Office; undersea warfare program manager for Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command; and, executive assistant to the Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy (OPNAV N2/N6E).

Brown commanded the Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Facility in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Naval Oceanographic Office, Stennis Space Center, Miss.

His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in Oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy; a Master of Science degree in Oceanography from the University of California in San Diego; and a Master of Science degree with distinction in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

In August 2012, he assumed duties as the commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command.
