Yuletide markets

In Germany, the Christmas season is synonymous with Christmas markets.

One way to experience several in a short amount of time is to book a river cruise along the Rhine or Danube.

For example, A-ROSA River Cruises offers a number of five-day itineraries.

  • “Christmas Markets South” starts and ends in Cologne, stopping en route in Strasbourg, Speyer and Mainz. Prices per person in a double occupancy cabin begin at 479 euros.
  • The five-day “Christmas Markets Middle Rhine” itinerary begins and ends in Frankfurt, calling in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Koblenz and Rüdesheim; prices from 479 euros.
  • The five-day “Danube Christmas Markets” sets off from Passau, with stops in Vienna and Linz. Prices begin at 429 euros per passenger.  Other Christmas itineraries are available.

Visit the website a-rosa.de for inspiration by location (in English).

Already living in Germany? Tourist agencies, such as L’Tur, also offer a variety of Christmas market cruise packages, many at significant discounts.
