  Open Doors 2011 was released on November 14. IIE held a briefing at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to discuss new statistics and trends.

  International Students

  The number of international students at colleges and universities in the United States increased by five percent to 723,277 during the 2010/11 academic year.

  270,604  students studied abroad for credit during the academic year 2009/10, compared to 260,327 the previous year.

Open Doors, supported by a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, is a comprehensive information resource on international students and scholars studying or teaching at higher education institutions in the United States, and U.S. students studying abroad for academic credit at their home colleges or universities.

The new Open Doors data will be released on November 13, 2012.
