Albuquerque, NM - On July 15, 2011, members
from the United States Marshals Service South East Regional Fugitive Task Force
arrested Jesse Sosa. Sosa is one of The Marshals Service District of New
Mexico’s Most Wanted Violent Fugitives.
On October 15, 2010, Jesse Sosa was to be sentenced in a New Mexico District
Court for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. During a court recess, Sosa
fled and did not return. At the time of the court hearing, Sosa was on state
probation for Armed Robbery and on bond for two pending cases, including
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Sosa has a lengthy criminal history which includes convictions for Manslaughter
and numerous Firearm offenses.
On July 7, 2011, Investigators on the Marshals Service Southwest Fugitive Team
(SWIFT) task force sent a collateral lead to N/GA with a possible location for
Sosa. The case was assigned to the Marshals Service South East Regional Fugitive
Task Force and on July 14, Deputies and Task Force Officers were able to observe
Sosa coming and going from an apartment they had been watching. On July 15,
2011, members from the South East Regional Fugitive Task Force made forced entry
into the apartment at which time Sosa attempted to flee out a back door, but
Sosa ran back inside and was eventually found hiding inside a bathroom. Sosa was
booked into the Clayton County Jail and will be awaiting extradition back to New
Mexico.
Conrad Candelaria United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico said,
"This is another example of how our program works. Those dangerous fugitives
placed on the New Mexico's Most Wanted list receive the full attention and
priority of our task force investigators until they are brought to justice. They
can run but there will always be a Deputy Marshal following their trail which
will eventually culminate in their capture."
