Walk & Talk
With the days getting longer, consider taking a walk with your family after dinner. I’ts good way to be active and a great chance to communicate with your kids. Ask them if anything interesting happened in their day, if something new is happening with school or their friends, or talk about the weather or the color of a car passing by. Be sure to listen to the answers!

What are you looking at?
Consider limiting your family screen time like TV and computer games to no more than 2 hours a day. Make screen time healthier by getting up and move during commercials to get some physical activity. Not sure what to do? How about dance moves, a conga line around the sofa, or see who can do more jumping jacks.

Be culinary creative!
Cut food into fun and easy shapes with cookie cutters. Name a food your child helps make. Serve “Janie’s Salad” or “Jackie’s Sweet Potatoes” for dinner. Encourage your child to invent new snacks. Make your own trail mixes from dry whole-grain, low-sugar cereal and dried fruit.

Make a healthy change to pizza night
Set up a pizza-making station in the kitchen. Use whole-wheat English muffins, bagels, or pita bread as the crust. Have tomato sauce, low-fat cheese, and cut-up vegetables or fruits for toppings. Let kids choose their own favorites. Then pop the pizzas into the oven to warm.

Take a trip
Take a trip – “Travel” to Spain, China, or Australia. Borrow a library book with photos and facts about your destination, prepare a local-inspired meal, rent a documentary or movie that takes place in that country, and imagine yourselves there.
