Activities of the Week

Take Time to Be a Dad Today! Here are some suggestions for easy, no-cost or low-cost ways to spend meaningful time with your family. Everyone’s circumstances are different, so some of these activities might not be possible for you and your children.
September 2, 2012 to September 8, 2012
Watch the Game Together
Cheer for your favorite team and chat about the plays. Mute the commercials and use those minutes to talk about what’s going on in your lives.
August 26, 2012 to September 1, 2012
Donate a Book
Gather your already read books & donate them to a local library, school, or shelter. The books will be enjoyed again, you will reinforce to your children the value of reading, and they will gain a better understanding of the importance of giving to others.
August 19, 2012 to August 25, 2012
Visit the Library
Experience the joy of reading without the cost of buying books. Visit your community library and get a card for each member of your family. Help your children select a variety of age-appropriate books you can borrow and read together.
August 12, 2012 to August 18, 2012
Lend a Hand
Make a plan together for ways that you can help out those around you in little ways – holding a door open, picking up something that someone dropped. Each keep a list for the week, and pick a time to come back and talk about it.
August 5, 2012 to August 11, 2012
Turn it Down – Part 2
Next time you’re talking with your kids, remember it’s okay to have a lull in the conversation while they think about the answers. Turn off background noise & distractions to pay attention to what’s being said.
July 29, 2012 to August 4, 2012
Turn it Down – Part 1
The next time you get in the car with your kids, turn off the radio. Share what’s on your mind, or ask them a question.
June 24, 2012 to June 30, 2012
Current Events – Part 1
Get a local newspaper or visit a news website and find a positive story. Ask your kids about it. Start the conversation with “Did you hear about…”
June 6, 2012
Read together
Read a book, newspaper, magazine, the comics, anything will do as long as you are with your children.
