Brunei, US pact to provide military support, services

BRUNEI and the United States of America (USA) have bolstered their relationship further with the signing of an agreement for the provision of a range of support and services yesterday.

The Acquisition on Cross-Service Agreement which was signed between the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) with United States Pacific Command (Pacom) yesterday was yet another milestone in military cooperation between the two countries.

Under accordbasic terms, conditions and agreements have been set out to facilitate the reciprocal provision of logistical support, supplies and services between the RBAF and Pacom.

These services will be carried out during joint exercises, training, deployments, operations or other cooperative efforts and for unforeseen circumstances or instances in which either the US or Brunei may require them.

Signing on behalf of MinDef and RBAF was Colonel (L) Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit, Commander of the Joint Force Headquarters, while Pacom was represented by its Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Daniel J Darnell.

On hand to witness the signing ceremony was Commander of the RBAF, Dato Paduka Seri Major General Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin, Service Commanders and Senior Officials from Ministry of Defence and the RBAF, as well as members of the US Embassy in Brunei

Lieutenant General Daniel J Darnell is in the country for his maiden visit since Thursday. During his short trip, Pacom Deputy Commander also made a number of courtesy calls on Senior RBAF officers and visited places of interest in the country.
