Using GPS to Combat Domestic Violence
In domestic violence cases, law enforcement can use surveillance and control technology to both monitor the perpetrator and protect the victim.
An NIJ-sponsored study examined the use of GPS technology to monitor compliance with court-mandated "no contact" orders in domestic violence cases and compared its effectiveness to other kinds of pretrial supervision.
The findings indicate that use of GPS increases program enrollees’ compliance with no contact orders over both the short- and long-term.
