Coast Guard Station Philadelphia is a small boat station located in Philadelphia. The station's area of responsibility consists of the Delaware River, tributaries including Schuylkill River, and a portion of Delaware Bay.
The station is a 'level one unit' protecting a 'tier one port'. Level one unit means Station Philadelphia and its crewmembers operate at the highest Port Waterways Coastal Security (PWCS) level. Philadelphia is one of the nation's top ports for produce and petroleum products; as such the station must maintain a vigilant watch at all times. Station Philadelphia's area of operations include critical infrastructure such as major bridges, petroleum plants, a nuclear power plant, and Navy yard. To protect such assets, Station Philadelphia has ready, at a minimum, two armed and fully outfitted boatcrews 24 hours a day and seven days a week. These crews are always on 'Bravo Zero' status, meaning they are ready for immediate launch. The station also conducts multiple daily patrols of the maritime critical infrastructure and key assets. In addition to the PWCS responsibilities, Station Philadelphia conducts the traditional Coast Guard missions of search and rescue and maritime law enforcement.
Station Philadelphia has some of the most dedicated leaders and crew the Coast Guard has to offer. This dedication resulted in the unit being presented the Sumner I. Kimball Award in October 2010. 'The Kimball Award' is presented to those units which exhibit the very highest standards and readiness posture.
