Mans Falls Into Gravel Pit

A man playing Frisbee golf was critically injured Monday when he fell 30 feet into a gravel pit and hit his head on rocks, fire officials said.

A LifeFlight helicopter rushed the 35 year-old victim to a hospital after he suffered the head injury at Vance Park in southeast Portland.

According to Gresham firefighters, the man walked through a hole in a safety fence on the edge of the course and then tumbled into the pit.

Frisbee golf players said Monday that the man may have tossed his Frisbee over the fence.

Multnomah County owns and operates the gravel pit. Gresham firefighters said a worker at the site told them he patches up holes in the fence frequently. There were at least three holes in the chain link fence Monday.

Multnomah County deputies said they're not involved in the investigation.

The gravel pit was closed Monday night.
