Chemistry/Chemical or Material Engineering

Technology Center 1700 is comprised of approximately 500 Patent Examiners divided into seven workgroups examining applications related to Chemical and Materials Engineering. Specific technology areas include: Synthetic Resins, Fluid Separation and Agitation, Metal Foundry, Welding, Plastic Modeling Apparatus, Fuels and Related Compositions, Glass and Paper Making, Tobacco, Non-Metallic Molding, Adhesive Bonding, Tires and Coating Apparatus, Metallurgy, Electrochemistry, Cleaning, Disinfecting, Sterilizing, Analytical Chemistry, Wave Energy, Chemical Products and Processes, Solar Cells and Sputtering Apparatuses, Food Technology, Petroleum Processing, Coating and Etching, Stock Materials and Miscellaneous Articles.

Communications (Electrical Engineering)

Technology Center 2600 is comprised of over 900 Patent Examiners divided into 13 workgroups examining applications related to Communications. Specific technology areas include: Digital Communications, General Communications, Optical Communications, Telephony, Audio, Cellular Telephony, Image Analysis, Radio and Satellite Communications, Cameras, Fax and Printing, Speech (Fax, Disk Drive), Computer Graphics, and Display Systems.

Technology Center 2100 is comprised of approximately 500 Patent Examiners divided into nine workgroups examining applications related to Computer Architecture and Software. Specific technology areas include: Computer Architecture, Miscellaneous Computer Applications, Data Bases and File Management, Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), Interprocess Communications and Software Development.

Computer Networks, Multiplex Communications, Cable and Information Security

Technology Center 2400 is comprised of approximately 750 Patent Examiners divided into eight workgroups examining applications related to Networks, Multiplex, Cable, TV Recording, Video Compression and Information Security. Specific technology area include: Computer Networks; Bandwidth Sharing, Switching and Routing in Telecommunications Networks, Video Distribution Systems; Dynamic Recording or reproducing color television signals; Image Compression (Bandwidth reduction); Encoding, Coding and Decoding; Television Signal Processing; Television Components; Cryptography and Security.

Technology Center 2900 is comprised of over 100 Design Patent Examiners divided into six workgroups examining applications claiming the visual ornamental characteristics embodied in, or applied to, an article of manufacture.
