The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Vehicle Technologies Program manages several Energy Policy Act (EPAct) transportation regulatory activities that aim to reduce U.S. petroleum consumption by building a core market for alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs).
EPAct directed DOE to develop the Alternative Fuel Transportation Program to manage regulatory activities, including the State and Alternative Fuel Provider Fleet Program, which requires covered fleets to reduce petroleum consumption through one of two compliance methods.
