Chief Economist of the FCC

Marius Schwartz makes his home in OSP but, on economic issues, reports directly to the Chairman. He is Professor of Economics at Georgetown University, where he has taught since 1983 and his research specialties are in industrial organization, competition and regulation. 

From September 1998 through April 2000, Professor Schwartz served at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) as the Economics Director of Enforcement and, for six months, also as the Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economics (chief economist).  From April 1995 through June 1996, he served at the President's Council of Economic Advisers as the Senior Economist for industrial organization matters.

Professor Schwartz holds a B.Sc. degree from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from UCLA, also in economics.  He can be contacted by phone at (202) 418-2030.
