Endeavour Flight Deck (Powered Down)
Space Shuttle Endeavour is named after the ship that carried Captain James Cook to Tahiti for observations of the 1769 transit of Venus, the reasoning behind its British spelling. This orbiter, the fifth and final built for the space shuttle program, was constructed from structural spare parts to replace Challenger after her loss in the 1986 launch accident. Endeavour still came with a US $2.2 billion price tag and was delivered to NASA in May of 1991. For the next twenty years she flew twenty-five missions, half dedicated to the construction of the International Space Station.
