The United States is proud to be supporting South Sudan as they take a leadership role in their fight against HIV/AIDS.

Progress achieved in South Sudan through direct PEPFAR support during fiscal year (FY) 2011¹:

• 12,200 HIV-positive individuals received care and support (including TB/HIV)
• 78,800 individuals received counseling and testing
• 300 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) received support
• 500 HIV-positive pregnant women received antiretroviral prophylaxis for PMTCT
• 13,500 pregnant women with known HIV status received services
• 133 estimated infant HIV infections averted

Through PEPFAR, South Sudan received $14.5 million to support comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care programs in FY 2011.
