National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association - signed February 11, 2003.
- renewed February 8, 2006.
- renewed again October 5, 2010.
"For the first time ever, MSHA and an industry association have jointly agreed to adopt safety and health performance goals with objective measures. This alone is unprecedented. They obviously see safety as a value."
"NSSGA is again showing its leadership. There is one key phrase in the agreement that truly sums up this pact: 'We need a culture of prevention.'"
"This agreement signals a new era of cooperation between the aggregates industry and government."
Both groups will work to promote a national dialogue on mine safety and health by sharing information on best practices or effective approaches to eliminating mining hazards, as jointly determined by MSHA and NSSGA. The alliance will conduct this dialogue with others in the mining industry through individual or joint outreach.

10/11/2005 MSHA Develops Core Safety Principles in Alliance with National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association
"Safety Pro in a Box"
Please accept the compliance assistance materials that form the basis of the concept of a "Safety Pro in a Box." This is intended to provide meaningful compliance assistance to new operators in the aggregates industry.
Core Principles of a Safety Program
The MSHA-NSSGA Alliance has developed a series of training documents designed for short safety meetings at mine sites. The 'Rip & Share Safety Handouts' were developed by a data mining team, which analyzed accidents at all metal and non-metal mines, and are aimed at helping mine operators and miners identify and control the types of hazards that are resulting in accidents at their mines. The documents are ideal training tools for all aggregate operators, and other metal and nonmetal operators, to hold safety and health discussions for their miners at the mine site.
