Our Top Stories: Welcome to 2010 - International Year of Biodiversity Winds Down 15 November 2010 The UN has designated 2010 as "International Year of Biodiversity," or IYB. Around the world and across Canada, botanical gardens, arboreta and other museums and institutions are preparing celebrations, educational events and new studies of biodiversity in response. A landmark even was held in October in Nagoya, Japan, when the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, or CBD, met for their 10th formal "Conference of the Parties." at this important meeting, the revised Global Strategy for Plant Conservation was approved, and a new protocol for dealing with access to genetic resources and sharing of the benefits was approved. Details will be posted in the coming weeks. The North American Botanic Garden Strategy for Plant Conservation North American Botanic Garden Strategy for Plant Conservation, produced in 2007 by the American Public Gardens Association, the US Centre for Plant Conservation, Botanic Gardens Conservation International and the Canadian Botanical Conservation Network, was a key topic for discussion at the 2008 American Public Gardens Association conference.
