  WHEREAS, since its creation in 1994, the AmeriCorps national service program has promoted and demonstrated the importance of service and volunteering, and has proven to be a highly effective way of engaging citizens of all ages and backgrounds by meeting a wide range of community needs;

  More than 500 teens from throughout metro Detroit were undaunted by inclement weather Saturday, turning out to participate in the Seventh Annual National Arab American Service Day, held this year at Project: Hope in Detroit.

  Lansing, MI - Governor Rick Snyder has declared the week of May 14 through May 21, 2011, as Michigan’s AmeriCorps Week. AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the great service being done by AmeriCorps members across the state during this fourth annual celebration.
   
5/13/2011 350 AmeriCorps Members to Serve Grand Rapids on May 20 & 21
  his year, the Michigan's AmeriCorps Russ Mawby Signature Service Project has been designated as Michigan’s 2011 AmeriCorps Week closing event. The Signature Service Project, taking place on May 20 and 21, will bring together more than 350 AmeriCorps members to assist with community projects in Grand Rapids.

  Governor Terry Branstad has proclaimed the week of May 14-21 as "AmeriCorps Week" in the state of Iowa. This recognition is part of a widespread effort by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the AmeriCorps Alum chapters in Des Moines and Davenport to promote the vital work done by AmeriCorps members in communities across Iowa. 5/10/2011 GOVERNOR PROCLAIMS MAY 14-21 AMERICORPS WEEK
  The AmeriCorps National Service Programs in Nevada are being saluted, by proclamation of Governor Brian Sandoval, during AmeriCorps Week, May 14 through 21, 2011. In conjunction with AmeriCorps Week, Nevada Volunteers, the state commission on national and community service, is recognizing five national service participants for their exemplary service to Nevada. Two of the honorees are from Las Vegas and will be presented with their awards during the National 9/11 Flag Tour Ceremony on May 12, 2011 in Las Vegas. This ceremony, of particular significance at this moment in time, will bring together local service heroes from the public sector and the military to add a stitch to the National 9/11 Flag that will hang in the museum at Ground Zero.
