Commander, Joint Region Marianas Reaffirms, Reenlists Guam Sailors

ASAN, Guam (NNS) -- The commander of Joint Region Marianas reaffirmed and reenlisted Guam Sailors during a ceremony at the Joint Region Marianas headquarters in Asan Oct. 10.

In recognition of the Navy's 237th birthday, approximately two dozen Sailors reaffirmed their commitment and five Sailors reenlisted.

"It's an important decision in anybody's life when you decide you're going to continue to serve in the Navy," said Rear Adm. Tilghman Payne. "First, it's something that you choose to do, that our Sailors choose to do and not anybody can make that choice."

Master-at-Arms 3rd Class (EXW) William Wilson, of Coastal Riverine Group 1 Detachment Guam, was one Sailor who reenlisted during the ceremony.

"I'm ready to serve my country for another four years," he said. "I love the Navy. It's a great opportunity to travel and meet different people, and do good things for your country."

Master-at-Arms 3rd Class Jared Horn, U.S. Naval Base Guam Security, said it felt good to reenlist in the Navy.

"I wasn't sure about maybe a year ago that I was even going to be doing this and now I'm hopefully about to pick up second class and make this a career," he said.

Payne said he was honored to reenlist the Sailors and added that their choice to serve again is a milestone to be commended.

"It's very humbling for me because it's an opportunity to participate in what is a major life decision for our Sailors," he said. "When you take a force such as our Sailors - and they've never been of a higher quality for any of the time I've been in the Navy - and they choose to continue service to their Navy during this critical time, I think that's important to celebrate."
